Once Upon a Recipe

Preschool Classes

Storytime meets snack time. Once Upon a Recipe is a gentle, hands-on introduction to the kitchen for our littlest learners — pairing a favorite story with a simple recipe they can help make themselves. No stove, no sharp knives, just little hands learning to pour, stir, sprinkle, and taste.

Storybook Cooking

Each session opens with a short storybook read-aloud, then moves straight into a matching no-cook or low-cook recipe that lets preschoolers practice real kitchen movements — pouring, scooping, spreading, mixing, sprinkling — using toddler-safe tools. The format builds early fine motor skills, food familiarity, and independence, all wrapped in the comfort of a story they already love. Sessions are designed to be co-attended with a parent, caregiver, or classroom aide, since this age group benefits from side-by-side support rather than independent instruction.

What little ones will learn:

  • Fine motor skills through pouring, scooping, spreading, and mixing

  • Early food vocabulary and sensory exploration (smell, texture, color, taste)

  • Following simple two- and three-step directions

  • Comfort and familiarity with new foods and ingredients

  • The story-to-snack connection — literacy and food exploration together
